TS007 3-star anti-snap euro cylinder fitted to a UPVC door in a London property

Anti-snap, anti-pick, anti-bump — what to ask for

Lock-snapping is the dominant burglary method on UPVC and composite doors across London — a forced break-in in under 30 seconds with hand tools alone. The fix is a Kitemarked TS007 3-star or Sold Secure Diamond euro cylinder. Anything less is not insurance-grade on a modern door.

On older timber doors the spec is different. A BS3621 5-lever mortice deadlock is the British Standard insurers reference — five differs, anti-pick curtain, hardened bolt. We carry Union, Chubb and ERA BS3621 stock on every van. A Yale 89 nightlatch is fine as a secondary lock but is never insurance-grade on its own — it has to be paired with a BS3621 mortice on the same leaf.

Anti-pick and anti-bump protection is built into every TS007 3-star cylinder and most modern BS3621 mortices. If the door is a fire door, the cylinder must additionally be certified for use in FD30 or FD60 doors — the certificate reference is recorded on the job sheet for the building log book.

How it works

1

Call or WhatsApp

Tell us the door type (timber, UPVC, composite, aluminium), the lock brand if visible and what is wrong. A fixed price is quoted on the call before anyone leaves the van.

2

Locksmith dispatched

Vans are spread across central, north, east, south and west London. Emergency lock-outs are typically attended within 30–60 minutes. Booked repairs are slotted same-day or next-day.

3

Non-destructive entry & fix

Where possible the door is opened by picking or bypass — no drilling, no broken cylinder. If destructive entry is unavoidable, the cylinder is replaced same-visit so you are never left insecure.

4

Pay and certificate

Card, bank transfer or cash on the day. VAT invoice emailed within the hour. For insurance claims a written job sheet listing the BS3621 or TS007 specification of the new lock is supplied as standard.

Break-ins and insurance jobs

A break-in is two jobs back to back — make safe first, full repair second. On the first visit the door is boarded up to police-secure standard with marine ply and security screws, any obvious points of entry are sealed, and a written job sheet is left for the insurer’s file. The full repair — replacement locks, frame repair or door slab change — is usually completed within 24 hours.

Every replacement lock fitted after a break-in is supplied to insurance specification (BS3621 or TS007 3-star) and the rating is listed on the VAT invoice. If the frame has split and the door slab is salvageable, the frame is repaired by our carpentry & joinery team on the same visit. If the door slab itself is unrepairable, a like-for-like replacement is sourced and hung within 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a locksmith charge in London?
A Yale nightlatch change in London is £85–£140 supplied and fitted with two keys cut. An anti-snap TS007 3-star euro cylinder is £95–£165. A 5-lever BS3621 mortice lock is £130–£220. A full UPVC multipoint mechanism replacement is £180–£320 depending on the gearbox brand. Emergency lock-outs start at £95 with a daytime/evening/overnight time band confirmed on the call. Prices include VAT and key-cutting on the doorstep.
Can you open a door without drilling the lock?
Yes — non-destructive entry is the default. Most euro cylinders, nightlatches and mortice locks can be picked, bumped or letterbox-bypassed by a trained locksmith in 5–15 minutes. Drilling only happens when the cylinder is already broken, the lock is anti-pick rated and there is no other access, or the customer has lost all keys to a high-security restricted suite where picking is impractical. If drilling is needed, the replacement cylinder is fitted on the same visit and two keys are cut before the locksmith leaves.
What is an anti-snap euro cylinder and do I need one?
Lock-snapping is the most common forced-entry method on UPVC and composite doors in London — a thief snaps a standard euro cylinder at the central cam with mole grips in under 20 seconds. An anti-snap cylinder is built with a sacrificial section that breaks off cleanly, leaving the locking mechanism intact and the door secured. Look for TS007 3-star or Sold Secure Diamond — those are the two ratings most household insurers require on UPVC and composite front doors after any break-in.
Do you change locks after a break-in?
Yes, 24/7 across London. After a forced entry the front door is boarded up to police-secure standard on the first visit, and a full repair with new locks is normally completed within 24 hours. We supply a written job sheet listing the BS3621, TS007 or Sold Secure rating of every new lock fitted — most home insurers require this document before settling the claim. If the door frame has split, the frame is repaired or replaced as part of the same job.
Can you fit a lock that matches my insurance policy?
Yes. Standard household policies in the UK call for BS3621 5-lever mortice deadlocks on timber external doors and TS007 3-star (or Sold Secure Diamond) anti-snap euro cylinders on UPVC and composite doors. Every lock supplied is fitted to that specification by default unless the customer specifies otherwise. The fitted spec is recorded on the VAT invoice for the insurance file.
My UPVC door won’t lock — is it the cylinder or the mechanism?
If the key turns freely but the door does not pull tight, the multipoint mechanism (the long gearbox running up the inside of the door edge with hooks and rollers) has usually failed at the centre case. If the key will not turn at all but the handle still lifts, it is almost always the cylinder. If neither key nor handle moves, the door has dropped on the hinges and is binding in the frame — a re-hang and alignment fixes it without changing any parts. The locksmith diagnoses on arrival and only replaces what has actually failed.
Can you upgrade a fire door without breaching its rating?
Yes. FD30 and FD60 fire doors keep their certification only if every component fitted is itself fire-rated or non-compromising. We fit TS007 3-star anti-snap euro cylinders certified for use in fire doors, leave the intumescent and smoke seals in the frame intact, and use intumescent hinge pads where required. A short written statement confirming the upgrade did not breach the door’s fire rating is supplied for the building log book or FRA file.
Do you carry stock for UPVC multipoint mechanisms?
Vans carry GU, Yale, Fuhr, Maco, Avocet, Mila, Winkhaus, ERA and Lockmaster gearboxes covering roughly 90% of UPVC and composite doors fitted in London since 2005. Where a specific obsolete gearbox is needed, a same-day pickup from our trade supplier in Park Royal or Lewisham is normally possible. If the door has to be left secure overnight while a part is sourced, an internal deadbolt or temporary nightlatch is fitted free of charge.
Are you DBS-checked and insured?
Every locksmith on the rota is DBS-checked, photo-ID badged on site and trained to MLA (Master Locksmiths Association) industry standards. The business carries £5 million Public Liability and £5 million Employers’ Liability through Hiscox UK. Insurance documents and DBS certificates are available on request — landlords, property managers and block managers routinely request both before adding us to an approved contractor list.
Can you cut keys on-site?
Yes. Vans carry a battery key-cutting machine and blanks for the common Yale, Chubb, Era, Asec, Union and Avocet profiles, plus a wide range of euro and dimple-key blanks. Two keys are cut to every new lock as standard on the doorstep. Restricted-key suites (Mul-T-Lock, Ultion, ABS) are ordered from the manufacturer with proof of ownership and dispatched within 2–5 working days.

Locked out, broken in, or just need a better lock?

Fixed price on the call. MLA-trained, DBS-checked locksmith on the doorstep within 30–60 minutes for emergencies, same-day or next-day for scheduled jobs. Every lock fitted to BS3621 or TS007 3-star insurance specification.
